Postpartum Support Group
The Philly Birth Fund understands how critical the postpartum period can be for Black parents. As a means to support Black families during the postpartum period, as well as helping them build community, PBF has launched a weekly doula-led virtual postpartum support group.
Guiding Values
There is power in a group. We see each other and we affirm each other.
Emotional work is community work.
There is healing power in sharing how you feel with peers.
Sharing difficult feelings and experiences is the beginning of overcoming them.
A healthy parent makes a healthy baby and child.
Ground rules/ Expectations
This is a virtual peer support space for postpartum mothers and PBF grant recipients.
This is your space. Use this space in the way that works best for you!
Expectations around confidentiality: "what you say in the room, stays in the room"; anything said or noted in the room will not be repeated or discussed at another time or place
Openness and respect: group members are expected to listen to each other without interrupting, take turns speaking, and speak without judgment or giving advice; by the same token, choosing not to speak is also respected
Language: group members are expected to avoid language that would offend peers.
Promptness: meetings will begin and end on time
Avoid giving medical advice; this is a space for expressing grievances and feeling supported by peers
